INTRODUCTION
DocPal is a document management system originally based on the desktop publishing system OpenOffice2 Writer, but now based on OpenOffice3. OpenOffice3 is a suite of programs similar to Microsoft Office; however, it is free to download and use, and is platform independent, so it can be run on Linux and Unix systems as well as Windows. DocPal provides a Graphical User Interface to OpenOffice Writer that lets you create a document from a predefined Writer template, open the document on your desktop for editing, and then archive your document.
With DocPal, you:
- Create documents quickly and easily via the DocPal interface from predefined OpenOffice Writer templates.
- With a single mouse click, import all the important contact information, such as addressee's name, address, and reference information, into your document. All you are left to do is to write the content of your document.
- Always know where to find your documents. DocPals easy to use interface and multiple search options lets you retrieve documents instantly and with a minumum of fuss. Never again do you need to search your hard drive looking for documents that you have previously written but now can't find. DocPals search feature lets you find them instantly and open the document right away on your desktop.
- Search your document archives by the dates documents are created, the organizations or individuals that documents are addressed to, the types of documents you keep such as faxes and letters, and the reference of the person creating the document.
- Don't need to worry about how and where your documents are stored on your file system. Over time, you might accumualte several thousand documents of different types, such as faxes, reports and letters. DocPal takes care of all internal document file names, file organization and document storage. Your document archive is continuously and consistently organized and managed.
